| Restoration intervention was led by restorer Branko Pavazza, Head of Conservation Department in Split. The intervention consisted of: cleaning the painting surface, a very extensive removal of the overpaint and the reconstruction of the painted layer. On all these projects have participated two restorers - Julia Baćak and Branka Martinac, while my involvement started with the reconstruction of the canvas and the painted layer. In this final phase I have preformed two very complex reconstruction of the compositional elements, which are shown here. Reconstructions where based on technical analysis, followed by historical data and the reference remains of the original painted layer. This approach has enabled the re-establishment of compositional unity of the painting - an essential feature for the paintings in the ceremonial cult. All used materials are reversible. |
